| Debuting on Sunday, January 25th at 9:00 P.M. with the final installment the next evening, The Last Templar has been promoted as both a rollicking adventure and a serious look at what constitutes faith. A four-hour miniseries, The Last Templar is based upon the best-selling novel by Raymond Khoury. Mira Sorvino stars as Tess, an archaeologist from Manhattan along with co-star Scott Foley who plays an FBI agent. The two team up on a daring, fast-paced, romantic adventure as they seek to expose the lost secrets of the secretive, medieval Knights Templar society. With equal zeal the church attempts to thwart their efforts of revelation.
The mini-series encompasses nuances of science fiction as it delves into the hidden and unknown past rituals and practices of the Templars. As the story evolves it becomes a revelation of the mythical Templar secret and the age's long debate over it, as well as the church's over-arching attempts to guard the secret. In true science fiction fashion it explores the very meaning and existence of faith and how we cling to it. Sorvino's character undergoes life-changing experiences as she falls in love with a man who is much more spiritual than she is. Her cynicism and skepticism about faith turns to an inner hope that there is more to our existence than what is merely visible or scientifically provable. |
